Maranatha – part 6 – The Mindset D
Matthew 25:14 – 30 – The Parable of the Talents
As we come the next to last parable in Matthew 25, we come to one of the most popular parables of Jesus’ teachings. The parable of the talents is told at many funerals as people look forward to hearing those words when they enter heaven, “Well done, good and faithful servant”, but the context of the parable is really about the second coming of Christ. Jesus is telling his disciples that they not only need to be ready and prepared, but also they need to be able to prove their faith with a productive life working for the Kingdom.
This sermon explains both the simple truths and some of the spiritual truths behind this beautiful and important red letter teaching.
Maranatha is the Aramaic word meaning: Jesus is Coming!
It became the declaration of the early church following the ascension of Christ as a reminder that we need to be about the Lord’s work because Jesus is coming back. This Summer series will investigate the doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ in the context of how a Christian should live based on this fact.
